Rusty Whisenhunt
Rusty Whisenhunt has been employed in the Public Works Department of the City of Lawton since 1998, first as the Assistant Director of Public Works and then in 2011 when he became the Director of Public Utilities. Rusty exemplifies exceptional commitment and leadership and exudes the age-old mantra of “if we’re going to do it, we are going to do it right”.
The City of Lawton recognized Whisenhunt with the True North Award for consistently demonstrating exemplary performance, being a team player, displaying innovation and initiative, and leadership qualities.
Whisenhunt was presented Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oklahoma Water Environment Association as well as the Golden Manhole Aware for his significant participation in Operations, Maintenance, Design, Field Evaluation, Education, Training, Certification, Management, and Planning of Wastewater Collection Systems.
He is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers; the Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers; the Water Environment Federation; Oklahoma Water Environment Association and the American Water Works Association.
Rusty is very involved with his church as a minister of education. He has also been the Director of Vacation Bible School as well as an Adult Sunday School Teacher. He has led five week-long mission trips to Hurricane Katrina damaged areas of Louisiana to install and finish sheet rock and install ceramic tile flooring. He constantly puts others above himself and is always willing to assist in whatever is needed. His work ethic and responsiveness are admired by all who has worked with him.
